With the Mayan and Spanish influence, volcanoes and jungles, Guatemala is a nice vacation spot to get off the grid and avoid western-type tourists.

The best times to go are from October to May - other times have much too heavy rain to vacation well.

There are direct flights from Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago among others - it's a very well served airport (airport code GUA).
