Hotels in Montevideo
Like Lima, many travellers fly into Montevideo - (MVE) to get to Punta del Este which is about 100 km away. But it's another great city to explore and not expensive at all. Uruguay is known for being somewhat sleepy and out of the way but it was once quite a bustling metropolis. There's a lot of beautiful architecture reminiscent of Buenos Aires and of course Paris. The Palacio Salvo is a prime example!
There are lots of North American chains in Montevideo, so it's not hard to find a really nice place for less than a hundred bucks. The Radisson (where this photo of the Palacio Salvo was taken) and the Four Points are both excellent choices downtown and less than $100 normally.
