Wine Regions of Chile
The wine regions of Chile, as defined by the Chilean government, are as follows:
Atacama
The Atacama wine region of Chile is known for its production of Pisco.
Coquimbo
The Coquimbo wine region of Chile is primarily known for the production of Pisco and table grapes.
Aconcagua
The Aconcagua wine region of Chile produces different varietals in different areas. These include Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the cooler areas of the region and Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the warmer areas of the region.
Valle Central
The Valle Central wine region of Chile is the most well-known region and produces the most Chilean wine. It is known for Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and the local Chilean Pais wine grape.
Southern Chile
The Southern Chile wine region has a reputation for producing lower-end wines made from the local Pais grape. More recently wine producers in Southern Chile have begun to produce Gewurztraminer.
